SHILLONG, Oct 3: Shillong-based Marwari community has condemned a hate comment allegedly made by Amarjit Shahi, a resident of Narsingh Akhara, and filed two separate FIRs against him at Lumdiengjri Police Station.
The complaints accuse Shahi of belittling both an individual and the entire Marwari community in a phone conversation.
One FIR, filed by business associate Chitranjan Sarswa, stated that Shahi called him on Thursday, while he was in Guwahati and launched a barrage of abuses. Sarswa said the offensive remarks included a hate comment against the Marwari community and continued even after he warned that the call was being recorded, leaving him distressed and fearful.
A second FIR, submitted by Pawan Sharma, Executive Member of the Marwari Panchayat, highlighted the broader communal implications. Sharma noted that the hate comment also contained derogatory references to women, warning that such language could threaten law and order if left unchecked.
He also urged immediate police intervention to prevent further incidents and to protect the community’s dignity.
Sharma further stated that inaction could encourage similar behavior in the future, potentially escalating communal tension.
