TURA, Oct 5: Underlining the urgent need to repair the Chibinang-Rajabala road as well as the completion of the ongoing National Highway 127 B construction, the All Meghalaya Minority Students’ Union (AMMSU) highlighted the “pathetic and unsafe” condition of the existing AMPT Road, particularly the stretch between Chibinang and Rajabala, which has become extremely difficult and dangerous for daily commuters.
“It is well known that the proposed NH-127B construction project over the AMPT Road is still in its preliminary stage, as the land acquisition and compensation formalities are yet to be completed. Due to these delays, the actual work on the highway has not yet commenced, leaving the public to continue using the old and damaged AMPT Road for all their travel needs,” it said.
According to the union, the road serves as the only major route connecting the region with nearby towns such as Goalpara and Tura, and is used daily by thousands of private, commercial, and passenger vehicles. It is also an important route for students traveling to schools, colleges, and tuition centers, as well as for patients needing emergency medical care, the union felt.
The Union has urged the PWD and other concerned authorities to initiate immediate repair works.
