SHILLONG, Oct 15: In a joint operation led by the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), two individuals, including a member of an interstate drug network, were apprehended at Lumshnong in East Jaintia Hills on Tuesday.
The arrests followed specific intelligence received by police about a vehicle travelling from Silchar, Assam, suspected to be transporting narcotic substances. Acting swiftly on the tip-off, a naka checkpoint was set up by the Umkiang Patrol Post team, leading to the interception of a car (AS-01-EJ-8977). The driver, identified as Abdul Rob Laskar alias Munna (22) from Kabuganj, Silchar in Cachar district, was taken into custody.
Subsequent investigation with assistance from the ANTF led to the arrest of another habitual offender, Asif Wahlang of Hari Sabha, Laban, Shillong, believed to be connected to the same network. During the search, police recovered five soap boxes containing 60 grams of suspected narcotic substances from the vehicle.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of the NDPS Act at Lumshnong PS. Officials said that further investigation is in progress to trace the supply chain and links across state borders.
