SHILLONG, Oct 24: Leaders of the United Khasi People’s Organisation (UKPO) and the Hill People Cultural Forum (HPCF) jointly visited a Khasi village in Dhansiri on Friday to express solidarity and hear the grievances of the local Khasi community.
The delegation, led by UKPO president Pynshngainlang Rattane along with Sunday Sten, Precious Masharing and Cletus Kholar, was joined by HPCF secretary general Dhiraj Diphusa, vice president and Gin-Fed Board chairman KAAC Tongthang Touthang, and other members.
During their interaction with villagers, the leaders reassured the Khasi residents of their safety and urged them not to lose confidence in the face of recent tensions.
Rattane said the UKPO, with the full support of the HPCF, stands firmly with the Khasi people to ensure their welfare, progress and cultural preservation.
Representing 26 tribes and communities across Karbi Anglong, the HPCF reiterated its commitment to unity and mutual respect among all hill tribes.
Meanwhile, Touthang stressed that peace and development can only be achieved through collective understanding and cooperation.
The visit ended with both organisations pledging to work closely with government authorities to address the developmental needs of Khasi residents in the area and to strengthen inter-community harmony across the region.
