Man killed, body burnt in farm; four held
AKOLA, Oct 25: A 26-year-old man was killed and his body was burnt in a farm over an old dispute in Maharashtra’s Akola district, following which police have arrested four persons so far.Victim Akshay Vinayak Nagalkar left home on the evening of October 23, but did not return, prompting his father to file a complaint.Police detained one Chandrakant Borkar and interrogated him. Borkar told the cops that he and seven others had killed Nagalkar over past enmity.Police said the accused persons invited Nagalkar to a hotel under the pretext of dinner and murdered him. They took the body to a farm, belonging to one of the accused persons and burnt it.Police have arrested four.Efforts are being made to track down the remaining accused. (PTI)
15-year-old boy feared drowned as boat capsizes
GORAKHPUR, Oct 25: Aspiring to be a cricketer, a 15-year-old boy who returned home from his training in Vodadra for Diwali holidays, is feared drowned after a boat carrying eight people capsized in the Gorra river here on Saturday morning, police said.The incident occurred when the boatman, who was allegedly drunk, suddenly started the boat’s engine while passengers were disembarking.According to police, the old, dilapidated boat hit a block, cracking it, and capsized after filling with water.Locals rescued seven people. A man tried to save his teenage son but lost his grip and he was swept away by the strong current.Rescue teams, who arrived upon receiving information, are continuing the search for the missing boy, who has been identified as Krishna Chaturvedi (15). Myanmar woman held with over ₹1 crore gold at Delhi airport
NEW DELHI, Oct 25: A woman from Myanmar was arrested for smuggling gold worth Rs 1.17 crore at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport here, the customs department said on Saturday.The accused was intercepted after her arrival from Yangon, Myanmar on Friday.During the personal and baggage search, six rectangular-shaped yellow metal bars, appearing to be gold weighing 996.5 grams were recovered from the passenger.The metal bars were concealed in brown colour tape and hidden inside a black colour undergarment worn by the passenger, said a statement issued by the customs department.The total tariff value of the recovered gold is Rs 1.17 crore, customs said.
