Cases pending in US against KPC group: CSWO

SHILLONG: The CSWO has opposed the move to shift the Reid Chest (TB) Hospital from its present location at Jhalupara to Umsawli, 13 km away, and the granting of the Medical College contract to Kolkata-based KPC Group which is headed by Kali Pradip Chaudhuri who has many lawsuits pending against him in California, U.S.

In a statement issued to the media on Tuesday, CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing alleged that the Law Secretary was not consulted on the preparation of the MOU signed with the firm.

“TB is a disease which affects the poor more and it is not feasible for the poor patients to have to travel 13 km and such decisions deserve to be investigated into,” Kharshiing said.

“The CSWO is also shocked that an International institution like the IFC (International Finance Corporation) of the World Bank Group had to select KPC Group which is already having lawsuits in California.
