DoNER Min to lay base for Rs 200 cr Sohra Tourism Circuit today

SHILLONG, Oct 31: Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Jyotiraditya M. Scindia will lay the foundation stone for the Rs 200-crore Sohra Tourism Circuit on Saturday.
The event is being organised by the Department of Tourism in collaboration with the Ministry of DoNER. Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma and Tourism Minister Timothy D. Shira will also be present on the occasion.
The project, to be funded under the PM-DevINE scheme, aims to strengthen tourism infrastructure, sustainable livelihood opportunities and preserve Sohra’s unique cultural and natural heritage.
The project will enhance visitors’ facilities, promote eco-friendly tourism and create employment avenues for local communities, ensuring that the benefits of tourism growth are inclusive and sustainable.
As part of the foundation ceremony, the dignitaries will visit stalls showcasing local crafts and enterprises and interact with entrepreneurs, artisans and tourism stakeholders, reinforcing the Government’s focus on community-led tourism development.
On Sunday, Scindia will pay visit to Mawmluh Cave, known globally for its geo-tourism significance.
