SHILLONG, Nov 9: The Kur Saw Kpoh Lyngdoh Buam clan on Saturday felicitated KHADC Chief Executive Member, Winston Tony Lyngdoh, during a special programme held in honour of his recent achievement of becoming the council’s head.
The clan expressed immense joy and pride over the success of the Nongthymmai MDC from the Voice of the People Party (VPP), who has been entrusted with leading the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC).
Prominent clan elders, including president W. Liningstar Lyngdoh and advisors W. Laslarton Lyngdoh and Chesterfield Lyngdoh, attended the felicitation programme.
The clan president suggested that the CEM should take the initiative to urge both the central and state governments to conduct comprehensive research and studies on the traditional customary practices and matrilineal system of the Khasi community.
He further proposed that the KHADC seek special funding from the Ministry of Culture to engage scholars in carrying out such research projects.
Expressing heartfelt gratitude to the clan, the CEM conveyed deep appreciation for their unwavering support and encouragement, adding that the recognition inspired him to dedicate his efforts towards the welfare and progress of the people.
During his speech, the Nongthymmai VPP MDC also shared a personal note, revealing that his name “Winston” was the middle name of his late father, Harrison Winston Massar, which he adopted out of love and respect.
He said he chose to use the name with his father’s consent during his lifetime as a tribute to his memory, being the only son in the family.
