UDP asks public to take part in demo

SHILLONG: The UDP in statement on Sunday has urged the citizens of the State to take part in the sit-in demonstration organised by the party on April 29 in protest against the Government’s failure to address the power crisis in the State.

The sit-in demonstration will be held at the parking lot near Additional Secretariat from 10 am till 5 pm.

“We would like to urge the common citizens who have similar concerns towards the prevailing power crisis to attend the sit-in demonstration,” UDP general secretary Allantry F Dkhar said in a statement.

He also informed that the sit-in demonstration would be led by the party working president Jemino Mawthoh.

FKJGP concerned over power crisis

The FKJGP have expressed concern over the prevailing power crisis which has resulted in the imposition of many hours of load shedding by the MeECL.

“The load shedding of 11 to 12 hours has badly affected the common citizens of the State,” FKJGP president Joe Marwein said in a statement here on Sunday.

Marwein also stated that the switching off of the street lights have also created a sense of insecurity among the people especially during the late night hours while adding that the criminals have also been able to take advantage due to the darkness.

The FKJGP president also questioned that the decision of the Government to invest several hundred crores in The delay in the completion of the Nongstoin district jail led to overcrowding of the Shillong District Jail as under trial prisoners (UTPs) as well as convicts from West Khasi Hills had to be accommodated here due to lack of space.
