India crush Australia by 209 runs in Women’s Blind T20 WC match
NEW DELHI, Nov 12: India continued their dominant run, defeating Australia by 209 runs in a Women’s Blind T20 World Cup match here on Tuesday.Batting first, India posted 292 for 4 with captain Deepika TC (B3) scoring 91 off 58 balls, while Phula Saren (B3) added a rapid-fire 54 not out off 22 balls.Australia also gave away 52 runs in extras and another 26 runs in penalty.Australia’s batting then folded up for 57 in 19.3 overs.Deepika was named ‘Player of the Match’ for her all-round performance.In another match, Nepal defeated Sri Lanka by nine wickets. Chasing 88, Nepal achieved the target in 5.2 overs. (PTI)
Basketball High Performance Centre unveiled in Bengaluru
BENGALURU, Nov 12: Aimed at developing a fresh line of players, the Basketball Federation of India (BFI) and ACG Sports Pvt Ltd on Wednesday unveiled a residential High Performance Centre in Bengaluru as a pre-cursor to the inaugural season of the India Basketball League (IBL).The HPC, located at the Lakshyan Academy, has three FIBA-standard courts, complemented by a state-of-the-art strength-and-conditioning gymnasium and a world-standard 25-metre swimming pool.The HPC’s integrated approach to high-performance basketball development will bring together a sports health department equipped with advanced biomechanics analysis technology, alongside dedicated nutrition, physiotherapy, and mental conditioning capabilities – all under one roof to ensure holistic athlete development.“The India Basketball League represents years of vision becoming reality. This is about creating national heroes and building a basketball culture that resonates across India,” said Aadhav Arjuna, President, BFI.“Basketball is an Olympic discipline, which gives our efforts even greater meaning. Jayaratchagan named India’s flagbearer for Tokyo Deaflympics
NEW DELHI, Nov 12: Three-time gold medallist Jerlin Jayaratchagan will be India’s flagbearer at the Deaflympics, beginning on Tokyo from November 15.India is sending a record 111-member contingent to the Deaflympics.The contingent was given a warm sendoff by secretary (sports), Hari Ranjan Rao, at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Wednesday. The first batch of Indians will leave for Tokyo on Thursday.Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, in a message to the Indian contingent, said: “India’s rapid progress in global events for special athletes is something to be proud of. As part of our endeavour to promote inclusivity and foster healthy outreach through sports, we are extremely happy to send the biggest-ever Indian squad to the Deaflympics.” “Every year our medal count has been increasing and I am very sure that we will even do better than Brazil.” India will take part in 11 disciplines – athletics, badminton, golf, judo, karate, shooting, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, wrestling and tennis.The Deaflympics are conducted by the International Committee of Sports for the Deaf (ICSD). Anahat Singh loses in China; Seelan in Bondi Open semis
SHANGHAI, Nov 12: Talented Indian squash player Anahat Singh took lead against Egyptian eighth seed and world No. 15 Sana Ibrahim but could not sustain the momentum, losing the round of 16 match at the China Open in Shanghai on Wednesday.The Indian went down 11-5 6-11 4-11 7-11 at the PSA Gold event.Meanwhile, at the Bondi Open PSA Challenger event in Sydney, top seed Rathika Suthanthira Seelan progressed to the semifinals.She began her campaign by getting the better of compatriot Aaradhana Kasturiraj 11-8 11-3 11-5 and followed that up with a 11-7 11-3 11-3 win over Thaliand’s Anantana Prasertratanakul in the quarterfinals.
