SHILLONG, Nov 20: The governments of Meghalaya and Assam are closely monitoring and coordinating ground deployments in Lapangap after a violent incident last month, which resulted in one fatality and several injuries during harvesting activities.
West Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner Abhinav K. Singh reported that the situation is now normal, with successful completion of the harvest, thanks to intensive efforts from both state governments. Adequate police deployment is in place to maintain vigilance, and border authorities are actively engaging with residents to ensure ongoing communication and peace.
A permanent police camp has also been established in Lapangap for sustained monitoring. Post-harvest, villagers are encountering challenges, especially with restrictions on repairing the paddy field dam, which is crucial for the next agricultural cycle.
He said dialogues are ongoing between the two state governments to resolve these issues and avert future conflicts.
