SHILLONG, Nov 21: The North-Eastern Hill University Teachers’ Association (NEHUTA) has issued a stern ultimatum to the NEHU administration, demanding that Gate No. 1 be opened within a week.
The association has warned that if the university fails to take action, teachers themselves will unlock the gate in protest.
NEHUTA president Prof. Lakhon Kma noted that although the gate has been fully constructed for over a year, it remains non-operational. He said the continued closure inconveniences those entering and leaving the campus, despite the gate’s clear purpose of easing movement.
Prof. Kma said the association expects the university authorities to ensure that the gate is opened “without any further delay”.
If the administration ignores the request, he said NEHUTA members will be compelled to open it themselves as a symbolic act of dissent.
The demand comes amid growing dissatisfaction among faculty members, who argue that the prolonged inaction reflects a lack of attention to essential campus infrastructure and day-to-day accessibility concerns.
