MAWKYRWAT, Nov 25: The Nongnah Veterinary Dispensary remains non-operational a decade after its construction, prompting the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) Ranikor Circle to demand immediate government action.
Following a visit to the site on Tuesday, HYC Ranikor Circle vice president Jonathan Syiemlieh expressed disappointment, noting that the dispensary building already requires major repairs despite never having been used.
Syiemlieh acknowledged the Veterinary department for cleaning and minor repairs carried out after the Council lodged an official complaint with local MLA Pius Marwein in September 2025.
However, the failure to inaugurate the dispensary has severely impacted Nongnah’s livestock farmers, especially young entrepreneurs who lack local support when their animals fall ill. They are forced to travel long distances to Mawkyrwat or Shillong for essential veterinary aid.
The HYC demanded that the state government immediately inaugurate the Nongnah Veterinary Dispensary to benefit local farmers.
“We requested our MLA, Pius Marwein, to take up the issue with the Minister in charge of the Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Department so that this dispensary can be made functioning at the earliest for the benefit of our livestock farmers,” Syiemlieh said.
