Silchar:  The border-district administration of Assam and Mizoram today decided to maintain status quo at the disputed area of their inter-state boundary.
The border earmarked during a 2011 meeting will be maintained strictly and no new construction of houses, digging earth, agricultural work should be performed or allowed in the area, official sources said.
A high-level meeting of Hailakandi (Assam) and Kolasib (Mizoram) district administrations decided this, they said.
Tension mounted at the border area of Hailakandi on Tuesday when unidentified miscreants from neighbouring Mizoram had attacked people at Gendacherra and tried to destroy the building of Kachurtol LP School, they said.
The meeting was held at Hailakandi Deputy Commissioner Samser Singh’s office with his Kolasib counterpart Jitendar Jadav, SPs, top Forest and Police department officials from both the states, sources stated.
The meeting decided that both the Divisional Forest Officers will conduct a joint-survey on the issue and the IR battalion of Mizoram deployed in the area will be withdrawn immediately, they said.
PHE Minister Gautam Roy told PTI that both the district administrations will sit in every six months at the DC level and discuss the situation and problems if any. (PTI)
