SHILLONG, Nov 30: The United Democratic Party (UDP) has confirmed its decision to contest the upcoming Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) elections, scheduled for the early part of next year.
However, the party has refused to reveal whether any prominent leaders or sitting MDCs have approached it for tickets.
UDP general secretary Titosstarwell Chyne on Sunday said the party is not yet ready to disclose details related to its political engagements in Garo Hills.
He informed that the UDP has constituted a special committee to hold discussions, deliberate on ground inputs, and interact with leaders from Garo Hills to assess the situation ahead of the polls.
Chyne reiterated that the UDP will definitely field candidates in Garo Hills. “It will be known once the special committee submits its report,” he added.
