FIR against NEHU professor for caste-based remarks against law student

SHILLONG, Dec 2: A student of the Department of Law, North-Eastern Hill University has filed an FIR against a professor of the department, Dr Naveen Kumar Jha, alleging caste-based harassment and humiliation.
The 9th semester student, Kalyan Das, filed the FIR stating that Dr Jha passed several derogatory and humiliating remarks against his caste and community.
The student also accused the professor of referring to him as “Chor Log”, “fisherman” and “illegal immigrant”.
When contacted, East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem confirmed that a case has been registered and investigation was under way.
