Former minister RA Lyngdoh passes away

SHILLONG, Dec 4: Former Minister Rain Augustine Lyngdoh passed away on Thursday evening at Woodland Hospital after a prolonged illness. He was 80.
Lyngdoh is survived by his wife and three children. A respected public figure, he served as the MLA of Sohiong constituency from 1998 to 2003.
Prior to his legislative tenure, he also represented Sohiong as an MDC in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) for one term.
Beyond politics, Lyngdoh was deeply involved in sports and local community affairs. An ardent football enthusiast, he was a familiar face at local football grounds until very recently. He was a founding member of Shillong Lajong FC and also served as the vice president of the Shillong Sports Association (SSA). Additionally, he was an active social leader and had served as the Rangbah Shnong of Lower Mawprem.
Following the news of his passing, the SSA held a condolence meeting at its office today. The meeting was chaired by SSA President Banteidor Lyngdoh, MLA, and attended by the association’s Vice Presidents, Assistant General Secretary, Treasurer, and council members, who paid tribute to the former Vice President’s contributions to sports in the state.
