SHILLONG, Dec 5: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and Assembly Speaker Thomas A Sangma on Friday mourned the demise of former minister and Sohiong legislator Rain Augustine Lyngdoh, paying tribute to his decades of public service and contributions to sports.
The Chief Minister took to X and posted, “Deeply saddened by the passing of Bah Rain Augustine Lyngdoh, former Minister and a respected leader of our State.
His dedication to public service, community life, and sports, especially as a founding member of Shillong Lajong F.C. will be remembered always. My heartfelt condolences to his family. May his soul rest in peace.@lajongfc”.
The Meghalaya Legislative Assembly also expressed grief, with Speaker Thomas A Sangma and the Secretariat stating they were “deeply saddened by the passing away of Rain Augustine Lyngdoh, ex-MLA, who represented Sohiong Constituency.” Lyngdoh was elected to the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly in 1988 on a UDP ticket and served till 2003, during which he also held the post of Minister of State. He remained deeply involved in sports, especially football.
The Assembly noted that he would be remembered for his “dedication to public service, his humility, and his earnest efforts to uphold the welfare of the community,” adding that his contributions as a legislator will continue to inspire many.
The Speaker and the Assembly extended their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and all those touched by his leadership.
