SHILLONG: The relatives of the BSF official Hangsing Neihsil, who was found dead in his camp at Shella border on April 30 under mysterious circumstances, have expressed concern over the allegations made against the deceased by the BSF.
The relatives on Sunday said that they were surprised to learn that the public information officer of the BSF confused Neihsil with another official who was undergoing rehabilitation for de-addiction from consumption of alcohol.
The BSF PRO Mahendra Singh had on Friday said that Neihsil was an alcoholic and was even sent to the de-addiction centre.
“For the information of the PRO, we want to reveal that one who was sent to de-addiction centre is another BSF officer called Mishsil and not Neihsil my brother.
“He was never sent to any rehabilitation centre as he was physically and mentally fit,” said the younger brother of the deceased over the phone from Manipur.
The PRO had also said that the marks found on the body of Neihsil, over which the relatives had cried foul play, had surfaced due to reaction caused by the consumption of alcohol by the deceased.
Refuting the claim, the relatives of the deceased said that the BSF should institute a transparent and high level probe into the mysterious death of Neihsil.
