AMPATI, Dec 10: South West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Hama Nayak has clamped a night curfew in areas along the international border with immediate effect, in view of the volatile situation in Bangladesh.
Citing fears of increased infiltration by undesirable elements, including militants, smugglers and illegal migrants, the DC invoked Section 163 of the BNSS to impose strict restrictions from 8 pm to 6 am within 200 metres of the Zero Line.
The order highlights vulnerability to cross-border movement by proscribed groups and anti-national networks, especially under cover of darkness.
The order prohibits movement of persons intending to illegally cross the border, assembly of five or more persons, carrying of arms, sticks, stones or any potential weapons and smuggling of cattle, contraband, betel nuts, dry fish, cigarettes and other goods.
