SHILLONG: The Shillong Traffic Police is happy about the fact that the number of vehicles using high intensity lights has gone down in the city and during a checking on Tuesday night, only five such vehicles were detected to have put on such lights.
SP (Traffic) NK Syiem said that only five vehicles were detected as most of such lights have been removed and other vehicles have ceased to ply during night.
According to Syiem, five vehicles which were caught have been compounded. He also informed that surprise checking on vehicles using high intensity lights will be conducted from time to time. This move by the Traffic department has been done keeping in consideration, the driving comfort of the other drivers whose vision at night gets restricted due to the opposing high beams.
He said that surprise checking on drunken driving will be conducted more frequently by the Traffic police as a precautionary measure.
He said that police will take up a non-FIR case against anyone found intoxicated while driving.
