SHILLONG, Dec 17: The Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF), East Khasi Hills District, has voiced deep concern over Shillong’s recurring water shortage, which has caused widespread hardship across localities.
HNYF president Steve Khyriem highlighted the irregular supply affecting households, shops, and institutions. He described the crisis as a perennial issue stemming from government inaction on root causes, primarily damaged pipelines repaired with substandard materials, leading to repeated breakdowns and fund wastage.
Khyriem criticised misplaced priorities, noting lavish spending on festivals while neglecting basic water needs. He warned that continued neglect only deepen public resentment and called on the government to treat the water crisis as a matter of urgent public importance.
