SHILLONG, Dec 18: More than three years after GVK EMRI ceased operations in Meghalaya, the state government has yet to appoint a new firm to manage its emergency ambulance services.
Following a closure notice served to GVK EMRI in 2022, the government invited tenders on at least four occasions. These attempts failed due to faulty tender specifications and subsequent legal challenges from bidders.
In the interim, the National Health Mission (NHM) has been operating the ambulance fleet. A state official recently stated that the government is formulating an effective plan to manage the service, which is expected to be ready within the next three months.
While the appointment process remains stalled, the government has not floated any fresh tenders for the service in recent months.
