Shillong, Dec 19: Large buildings in Meghalaya with a built-up area exceeding 10,000 square metres will now be required to obtain green building certification from the state government.
This mandate follows the recent approval of amendments to the Meghalaya Building Bye-Laws, 2021.
Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma announced that the policy makes green building certification compulsory for all such large-scale constructions.
Any future building surpassing the specified size threshold will need to comply with these eco-friendly standards.
The ongoing construction of the new Secretariat building in New Shillong Township will also be required to secure this certification.
In a separate development, the Meghalaya government has decided to acquire approximately 8,000 square metres of land near the upcoming Jewar Airport in Noida through a government-to-government transaction at a cost of Rs 32 crore.
The decision aims to expand infrastructure support for students and residents who frequently travel to the national capital and the National Capital Region (NCR).
