SHILLONG, Dec 19: The state Cabinet has approved the introduction of structured pay scales, annual increments and job security for over 23,000 ad hoc and SSA teachers in Meghalaya.
Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma said that the decision marks a major reform in the education sector. The decision would also ensure yearly increment based on seniority for ad hoc and SSA teachers in Meghalaya, he added.
The Chief Minister added that job security has also been ensured for these teachers, with provisions for contributions to the Contributory Provident Fund (CPF) by both the teachers and the government.
The government with this decision has also created scale and categorisation of teachers in terms of service.
The new structured pay will be implemented from April 1, 2026, Sangma said, adding that in the next three months, the government will work on the mode of implementation and complete the different administrative procedures.
On the financial implications, Sangma said the impact would be “quite significant” but refrained from disclosing exact figures even as he added that it is manageable.
Admitting that there are some small concerns, he however sounded optimistic that the government and the teachers would iron out those concerns even as he added that the move will lead to huge reformation in the education sector.
