10 needy families receive assistance

SHILLONG, Dec 29: The Shlem Jingiarap u Rupang Committee distributed financial and material assistance to ten needy families on Monday, concluding the 14th phase of its welfare programme.
The organisation disbursed a total of Rs 65,500 in aid during the current phase. Each of the ten beneficiaries received Rs 6,000, along with essential household items including blankets, mosquito nets, buckets, and cooking utensils. Three individuals who travelled long distances also received an additional Rs 1,000 each for transportation costs.
The distribution ceremony was held at the Mawkhar Christian Higher Secondary School and was attended by beneficiaries, donors, community elders, and volunteers.
Addressing the gathering, Committee General Secretary Babu Kular Khongjirem announced the total aid disbursement and noted a minor shortfall of Rs 1,350, which the committee pledged to cover.
The beneficiaries included: Khma Phawa (Kyndongtuber, East Jaintia Hills); Enselina Monssong (Mawhati, Pomlaban); Bik Mawlong (Umsaitsning, Umsmer); Philo Siangshai (Musniang); Krawkupar Nongsiej (Mawsyiem); Wanrilang Kurbah (Nongksehrim); Tenisha Manner (Nongryngkoh); Staril Diengdoh (Laitryngew); Romes Pyrtuh (Nongbsap); and Blasubin Kharakor (Laitlyngkot, Lumthangding).
AW Thomas Girls’ Home Superintendent Sahimika Khyriem attended as the chief guest. Other attendees included committee chairman RM Shabong, HANM president Lamphrang Kharbani, and BJP Mahila Morcha state president Sukhi Pariat.
The committee reaffirmed its commitment to continuing its humanitarian relief efforts and extended gratitude to donors. It highlighted its initiative to openly disclose financial details, ensuring transparency for the public.
