Fire razes five shops in Dimapur

Kohima: At least five shops were reduced to ashes and some others are partially damaged when a fire that broke out in the Khermahal area of Dimapur town on Friday.

According to sources on Saturday, most of the five shops were dealing with motor parts and fire broke out reportedly when a high voltage electric wire touched the tin roofed one of the shops and sparked for a long time, which turned into fire and later in an inferno.

Personnel from the Nagaland Fire Service, Army’s 50 ASC Battalion and Airports Authority of India (Agni Vijay), who finally managed to contain it after four hours.

Dimapur Deputy Commissioner Hushili Sema, on being informed swung into action and got the Airport Authority of India (AAI) Dimapur to dispatch the fire tender.

Immedialy, Sema rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation and remained till the fire was brought under control.

Around ten fire tenders were pressed into service from Nagaland Fire Services, Army’s 50 ASC Battalion (Supply Depot) and Airports Authority of India (Agni Vijay).

Estimates of losses was put at around Rs 2 crore that also included Lathe machine, motor parts, vehicle accessories, batteries and lubricants. (UNI)
