SHILLONG, Dec 30: A decomposed body of an unidentified man was found afloat in Saitharlong river near Lamyrsiang village, in East Jaintia Hills. On being informed, the police have sought the public’s help to identify the body.
According to the police, on December 27, around 11:05 AM, the Umpleng Police Outpost received information from Niwankijuh Bareh, secretary of the Lamyrsiang Village Defence Party (VDP), regarding a decomposed body floating in the river.
Investigating officers immediately proceeded to the spot. A decomposed, male body was recovered. Local residents were unable to identify the deceased.
Following inquest proceedings, the remains were shifted to Khliehriat Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination. The body is currently being held in the hospital morgue pending positive identification.
Police, in a description of the deceased, said he was aged 35-40 years, 5 feet tall, apparently healthy, and fair-complexioned. He was found wearing a black T-shirt labelled “Monkey D-Luffy” and shorts with three yellow stripes on both sides.
Distinguishable stitched marks were visible on the left forehead and the back of the deceased’s head.
