SHILLONG, Jan 4: The Voice of the People Party (VPP) on Sunday said it does not expect much from the state government in the coming year, while stressing that governance, rather than optics or increased borrowing, should be the priority.
Responding to a question on what the VPP expects from the government in the year ahead, party spokesperson Batskhem Myrboh said the government appeared to be more concerned with optics than addressing real issues faced by the people.
“The government talks a lot, but it seems more focused on optics than on genuinely listening to the people. We do not expect much, especially when it comes to creating more loans for the state,” Myrboh said.
He underlined that the core issue remains governance, noting that spending alone does not necessarily translate into meaningful outcomes for citizens.
“You may talk about funds or other things, but people must understand that without proper governance, whatever is done has very little meaning for the public,” he said.
Referring to expenditure in the education sector, Myrboh said that while significant amounts have been spent, spending by itself cannot be the sole measure of progress. He reiterated that listening to people and improving governance should be the government’s primary concern in the coming year.
