Man feeds ‘dhatura-laced’ food to mother, siblings before killing them
New Delhi, Jan 5: A man allegedly strangled his mother, sister and minor brother in east Delhi’s Laxmi Nagar after feeding them food laced with dhatura (a poisonous plant) over financial distress and later walking into a police station to confess the crime, police said on Monday. The accused, identified as Yashbir Singh (23), a resident of Subhash Chowk in Laxmi Nagar, surrendered at Laxmi Nagar police station around 5 pm and claimed to have killed his family members, they said. According to the police, Yashbir told investigators that his family was facing acute financial hardship and was struggling to make ends meet. His father, a truck driver, has reportedly not been living with the family for the past six months. The accused claimed that he had taken a term life insurance policy worth around Rs 1.5 crore and had made several attempts to end his life over the past two months by staging accidents, claiming snake bites and injecting air, but was unsuccessful, they said. “He stated that his mother confronted him a day earlier and told him that if he intended to die, he should first kill all family members and then face the consequences,” a senior police officer said, clarifying that the claims are based on the accused’s version and are being verified. 11-year-old girl raped, killed with axe in Chhattisgarh
Narayanpur, Jan 5: An 11-year-old girl reported missing last week was found raped and axed to death in Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur district, police said on Monday. The police have arrested a 24-year-old man, an acquaintance of the girl’s family, in connection with the crime, an official said. The child, a resident of a village under Sonpur police station limits, had been missing since December 31, and villagers found her body in a field at nearby Kosra village on Sunday, said Sundarraj P, Inspector General of Police, Bastar Range. Following a probe, the police zeroed in on the accused, a resident of Guner village of the district, he said. Preliminary investigation suggests that the accused, who was known to the victim and her family, allegedly sexually assaulted her and then killed her to cover up the crime, the official said. The accused allegedly used an axe to murder the girl, he said, adding that further investigation is underway. (PTI)
Gym ownership dispute turns violent in Delhi
New Delhi, Jan 5: A long-standing dispute over a gym’s ownership turned into a nightmare for a Delhi family when the establishment’s 52-year-old owner and his son were dragged, stripped and beaten in full public view by a group of men in Laxmi Nagar, while his wife was also allegedly molested by the accused. Police said that they have arrested one of the accused, while efforts are on to nab the other suspects who are on the run. Purported videos of the January 2 incident went viral on social media, capturing parts of the torment the family went through. In one of the clips, a group of men can be seen raining blows on the gym owner Rajesh Garg’s son Vasu (26), dragging him and stripping him on a road as he pleads for mercy. (PTI)
