PARIS, Jan 6: Ukraine’s allies met in Paris to discuss security guarantees and post-ceasefire plans with Russia, but progress remained uncertain as the US shifted focus to Venezuela and tensions rose over Trump’s Greenland comments.
French President Macron aimed for concrete commitments on ceasefire monitoring, military support, multinational deployments, and long-term defence cooperation, with 35 leaders attending. The US delegation, led by envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, replaced Secretary of State Marco Rubio due to the Venezuela operation.
President Zelenskyy said European troop deployments face hurdles, though some countries provide weapons, intelligence, sanctions, and humanitarian aid. The coalition’s strength and credibility depend on member states stepping up to fulfill commitments. (AP)
