NONGPOH, Jan 13: A major fire broke out on Tuesday at a mattress manufacturing unit at Amjok in Byrnihat, completely destroying the facility and causing losses estimated to run into several crores of rupees.
The factory, identified as Ummadat Foam Industries, was engulfed by flames at around 3 pm. According to information gathered, the fire initially broke out from a foam-cutting machine. Despite efforts by workers to control the blaze, it rapidly spread and went out of control. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the incident.
The owner of the unit, Adarsh Jhunjunwala, said the fire originated from the foam-cutting machine and quickly consumed the entire factory, destroying all machinery, raw materials and finished products. He estimated that the losses run into several crores of rupees.
Following the incident, Police from Byrnihat Police Outpost, along with fire and emergency services from Narbong and neighbouring Assam, rushed to the spot and launched firefighting operations. However, despite their efforts, the blaze could not be brought under control in time to save the factory.
