SHILLONG, Jan 13: The Rotary Egg Bank has launched a new livelihood initiative, ‘Egg & Chicken Push Carts,’ in Shillong to provide self-employment opportunities for unemployed youth.
The project was unveiled during the 32nd District Conference of Rotary District 3240, ‘PRATIDHWANI,’ in the presence of Rotary International Representative PDG Rotarian Nagesh and District Governor Dr Kameswar S Elangbam.
Dr Valmiki Hari Kishan, known as the ‘Egg Man of Rotary,’ formally announced the initiative.
Kishan noted that the Rotary Egg Bank, established during the COVID-19 pandemic, has expanded to 135 banks across 12 countries, providing nutritional support to over one lakh orphaned children and elderly persons.
In partnership with the National Egg Coordination Committee (NECC), the initiative will distribute push carts to promote entrepreneurship. The first phase, with an outlay of Rs 25 lakh, will provide 50 carts, with plans to scale up to 250 across seven states.
Kishan stated that regional Rotarians would identify beneficiaries and ensure transparent distribution through regular audits. He praised the community spirit of the North East and reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to social welfare.
The project will be coordinated by Dev Kumar, with Vikash Bajaj as Convenor and Kumar as Advisor.
