SHILLONG, Jan 16: The Hynniewtrep Youths’ Council (HYC) has strongly condemned the circulation of derogatory, inappropriate and deeply insensitive content targeting women from the Khasi community through an application known as ‘Nolo’.
In a statement, the HYC said such content is not only misogynistic and demeaning but also constitutes a direct attack on the dignity, identity and cultural values of the Khasi people.
The HYC demanded immediate and effective action against the perpetrators responsible for creating, promoting and circulating the content.
“We urge the concerned law-enforcement agencies and cyber authorities to take cognisance of the matter without delay, identify those involved and initiate strict legal action under relevant laws,” the HYC said, adding that targeting Khasi women in this manner reflects a dangerous mindset that cannot and will not be tolerated.
“We expect the authorities to act decisively and ensure accountability at the earliest. We have already informed the East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police and the Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Eastern Range, with a request for immediate action, and we hope that necessary action is taken at the earliest,” the HYC added.
