A female resident of a locality in Shillong lodged a complaint that one Mercy Grace Kharmawlong convinced her into investing Rs. 6,47,990 in an Affiliate Marketing Investment with a promise of high returns. Later, when the accused insisted on more investment/money without paying any profit, the complainant realised that she has been cheated.
A male resident of a locality in Shillong lodged a complaint that on December 31, 2025, one individual, who claimed to be a representative of Reliance NBFC Finance Ltd., offered him a loan under the guise of a genuine loan application and cheated him of Rs. 1,79,821, under the pretext of various fees.
Payment failure
K Ïawphniaw lodged a complaint that in January 2025, one Roshni Chettri purchased a motorcycle in his name with a promise to pay the EMIs. However, she failed to pay the EMIs regularly and later the complainant realised that he has been cheated.
A woman lodged a complaint that on December 11, 2024, she sold her Mahindra Bolero pick-up (AS-01RC-0309) to one Zairul Islam. However, despite several reminders, Zairul Islam failed to pay the remaining amount of Rs. 2 lakh.
Assault
Dipankar Shill lodged a complaint that on January 12 around 8.30 am, two unidentified miscreants attacked him with a knife near Dreamland Cinema Hall, Police Bazar, inflicting injuries to him and forcibly took away cash amounting to Rs. 1,200. In this connection, Police arrested Rahul Kumar (22) and Pynshailang Nongrum (26).
Two-wheeler missing
On January 13, Sameer Ali of Darang, East Khasi Hills, reported that he handed over his motorcycle (AS-13T-3693) to his co-worker, who intended to proceed to Mawsynram market. However, the individual failed to return back and went missing along with the motorcycle.
Break-in
SS Kynjing lodged a complaint that on January 10 night, unknown miscreant(s) broke into his residence at Lower Chutwakhu, Jowai, and stole one TV set, one Sony Theatre system, LPG cylinder, etc., total valued around Rs. 70,000.
Abuse
A resident of a locality in Shillong lodged a complaint that on January 9, one scrap dealer abused him, and also threatened his wife and child with dire consequences at their residence.
Smuggling bid foiled
Coy Commander, C-Coy, 4th Bn., BSF, BOP Muktapur, West Jaintia Hills, verbally reported that on January 9, BSF personnel recovered five heads of cattle, suspected to be smuggled to Bangladesh.
