SHILLONG, Jan 17: South Shillong MLA and Cabinet Minister Sanbor Shullai on Friday inspected development works worth over Rs 11 crore, including the widening of the road at Raid Laban and the construction of a football ground.
Officials from the Public Works Department (PWD), Sports Department and Water Resources department were present during the inspection, along with leaders of the Raid Laban Shnong.
Shullai informed that the PWD and the Sports department have begun the works after funds amounting to Rs 11.23 crore were sanctioned. Of this, nearly Rs 4 crore has been allocated to the PWD for widening the road from the gate of Raid Laban College up to Pom Muid.
The MLA also expressed gratitude to the Raid Laban shnong and Raid Laban College for voluntarily providing land for the road-widening project.
He further inspected the existing football ground as well as the ground where work is under way to lay artificial turf. He stated that an amount of about Rs 6 crore has been sanctioned for the football ground.
In addition, Shullai said that the Water Resources department has prepared a Detailed Project Report (DPR) and cost estimates for the construction of a check dam at an estimated cost of around Rs 2 crore.
He said the proposed check dam will help conserve water for use at the football ground and, at the same time, will serve as an additional source of water supply for the entire Laban area.
