Two children injured in Pak’s landmine blast
PESHAWAR, Jan 28: Two children were critically injured in a landmine explosion in northwestern Pakistan on Wednesday, according to police. The incident took place in the Patnai hilly area on the outskirts of Wana tehsil in South Waziristan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, near the Afghan border. Police said the children were playing when they accidentally stepped on a suspicious polish-like container that turned out to be an explosive device. Both were rushed to DHQ Hospital in Wana; one child is reported to be in stable condition, while the other was referred to Dera Ismail Khan for advanced treatment. The explosion caused panic in the area, with many residents gathering at the site. South Waziristan has seen hundreds of landmine explosions over the past 15 years, resulting in dozens of child deaths and hundreds of injuries. In a separate incident on the same day, a man was killed in an improvised explosive device blast in Bajaur district. Police launched a search operation to track down those responsible, though no group has claimed responsibility. (PTI)
Two Indians arrested in Nepal with fake Indian currency
KATHMANDU, Jan 28: Nepali authorities have arrested two Indian nationals from Bihar for possessing fake Indian currency notes in Rautahat district, southern Nepal, officials said on Wednesday. The accused, identified as Bikram Kumar Paswan, 30, and Rahesh Kumar Sah, 42, are residents of Sitamarhi district in Bihar. They were arrested on Tuesday night during a routine security check while entering Nepal on an Indian-registered motorcycle. According to Armed Police Force (APF) spokesperson Manish Thapa, security personnel recovered counterfeit Indian currency worth INR 2,500 from their possession. The seized notes included one fake INR 500 note and ten fake INR 200 notes. Following their arrest, the suspects were handed over to the District Police Office in Rautahat for further investigation. Authorities are probing the source of the counterfeit currency and whether the suspects are linked to a larger network involved in cross-border fake currency circulation. (PTI)
Indian man charged with murder in UK
LONDON, Jan 28: A 57-year-old Indian-origin man, Dalip Chadha, appeared in a UK court on Wednesday charged with the murder of a woman at a home in Ilford, east London. Chadha was arrested at the scene on Applegarth Drive in the early hours of Tuesday after police were called to the property around 4:00 am. Officers found a woman dead at the address. The victim has not yet been formally identified but is believed to be 58-year-old Vanessa Puntney-Chadha, reportedly Chadha’s wife. Her next of kin have been informed and are receiving support from specially trained officers. Chadha appeared before Barkingside Magistrates’ Court on January 28 charged with murder. The Metropolitan Police said the investigation is ongoing and appealed to the public for any information that could assist with the case. (PTI)
