Shillong, Jan 30: Sputnik Spartans CC registered a comfortable eight-wicket victory over NFU in a Cricket League Super Division match organised by the Shillong Cricket Association on Thursday.
After winning the toss, NFU opted to bat first but struggled to build momentum and were bowled out for 119 in 28.5 overs. Bharat Gurung was the top scorer for NFU with a steady 25 off 37 balls, while Laxman Gurung contributed 15 runs from 23 deliveries.
Sputnik Spartans’ bowlers kept things tight throughout the innings, with Jitumoni Kalita delivering a standout performance.
He returned remarkable figures of five wickets for 18 runs from nine overs, effectively dismantling the NFU batting line-up.
Dilwar Khan provided able support, claiming two wickets for 27 runs in 5.5 overs.
In reply, Sputnik Spartans made light work of the target, reaching 120 for two in just 14.2 overs. Kalyan Bhattacharjee anchored the chase with an unbeaten 53 off 43 balls, while Jitumoni Kalita added a quickfire 21 not out from just eight balls to seal the win in emphatic fashion.
For NFU, Laxman Gurung was the lone successful bowler, picking up one wicket for 17 runs in two overs.
Kalita’s all-round display earned him the Player of the Match award, capping a dominant outing for Sputnik Spartans CC in the Super Division contest.
