SHILLONG: It looks like school-going children in the State would have to learn the Chinese language in the near future. The State Government is contemplating to introduce Chinese language as one of the optional subjects to be taught at the school level in view of the large job opportunities available in China. Informing about the Government intention, Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma said it would be ‘ideal’ for students of the State to learn Chinese as this will provide impetus to job aspirants seeking employment in China. “There is huge demand for student from the Northeast in China due to their command in the language. Considering this fact, it would be ideal if our students can learn Chinese at the school level,” Dr Sangma said on Thursday. “Considering that Hindi, English and Chinese are widely spoken across the globe, learning of the Chinese language would give our student an upper hand to get jobs in China,” the Chief Minister said, while adding that Indian professionals, especially doctors and teachers, are in high demand in China.
