12 arrested with drugs, illicit foreign liquor in Jharkhand

Ranchi/Hazaribag, Feb 1: Twelve people were arrested in separate police operations in Ranchi and Hazaribag districts of Jharkhand, with authorities seizing drugs, illicit liquor, arms, and cash. In Ranchi, five individuals were caught with 4 grams of brown sugar, a country-made pistol, three cartridges, Rs 40,000, and four mobile phones near a hospital on Ratu Road; two of the accused had prior criminal records, said Ranchi City SP Paras Rana. In Hazaribag, seven people were arrested in multiple cases. Six were caught with 166.5 grams of brown sugar and over Rs 3 lakh in cash during a drug transaction near Nagwa airstrip under Korrah police limits, with the narcotics valued at over Rs 30 lakh, said SP Anjani Anjan. In another case, a pickup driver was arrested transporting 60 boxes of illicit foreign liquor from Bodha Jungle to Bihar. (PTI)

Man wanted in 2018 murder case arrested after 8 years

NEW DELHI, Feb 1: Delhi Police arrested a man who had been absconding for nearly eight years in connection with a 2018 murder case in northeast Delhi, officials said. The case, registered at Seema Puri police station, involved a burglary on October 31, 2018, during which the accused and his associates entered a house to steal. When the occupant confronted them, he was strangled to death. While co-accused were arrested earlier, the main accused evaded capture by frequently changing locations. Acting on a tip on January 31, police traced him to Faridabad, Haryana, where he was apprehended and confessed to his role in the murder. The accused had a history of criminal activity, including robberies and a 2017 robbery-cum-murder in Samaypur Badli. He revealed that the Seemapuri victim was known to him and the crime occurred during a planned burglary. Police said he deliberately went underground, moving across Delhi and neighbouring states to avoid arrest. Further investigation is ongoing. (PTI)

Two children among six killed in road accident in Bihar

PATNA, Feb 1: A fatal road accident in Bihar’s Patna district on Sunday claimed the lives of six people, including two children, and left two others injured, police reported. The collision occurred around 2 am in the Lekhan Tola area under Bihta police station limits when eight individuals were returning to Ara in a tempo. The deceased have been identified as Mohammad Guddu (33), Mohammad Imtiyaz (30), Mohammad Shahzad (22), his children Shafan (3) and Alki (18 months), and Asad Khan. The injured were rushed to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) for treatment. Sub-Divisional Police Officer Amrendra Kumar Jha said the tempo collided head-on with a truck coming from the opposite direction on the Ara-Bhojpur-Bihta-Patna main road. Five people died on the spot, while one succumbed to injuries at PMCH. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examinations, and police have initiated a detailed investigation into the circumstances of the accident, including the possibility of overspeeding or driver negligence.
