SHILLONG, Feb 9: A major fire broke out at the residential building of Mayantis Dkhar at Upper Lachaumiere in the early hours of Monday, at around 2:30 am.
According to police, the incident was first noticed and reported by a policeman who was on routine patrolling duty in the area. Following his alert, personnel from the Fire and Emergency Services rushed to the spot with fire tenders and managed to bring the blaze under control after sustained efforts.
Preliminary reports indicate that the fire may have been caused due to short circuit. Police informed that no casualties were reported in the incident, though the fire caused extensive damage to the property.
Further assessment of the extent of the damage is still on and the matter is being investigated.
