SHILLONG, Feb 10: Thirty-seven gallantry and distinguished service awards were presented to Army personnel on Tuesday in recognition of outstanding acts of valour, leadership and selfless service at the Eastern Command Investiture Ceremony 2026 — an annual event honouring exceptional courage, devotion to duty and distinguished service in the Indian Army.
The prestigious ceremony, held at Umroi Military Station, was presided over by Lieutenant General Ram Chander Tiwari, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, SM, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C), Eastern Command.
The awards included 19 Sena Medals (Gallantry), seven Sena Medals (Distinguished), two Yudh Seva Medals, one Bar to Vishisht Seva Medal, seven Vishisht Seva Medals and one Uttam Jeevan Raksha Padak.
In addition, 49 Army units and Army Public School, Kolkata, were conferred the GOC-in-C, Eastern Command Unit Appreciation for their exceptional professionalism, operational excellence and notable achievements.
The ceremony was attended by senior officers of the Indian Defence Forces, along with the proud families of the award recipients, including Veer Naris, reflecting the nation’s deep respect and gratitude for the sacrifices made by its soldiers and their families.
Addressing the gathering, Lieutenant General Tiwari congratulated the awardees for their exemplary service and urged all ranks to continue upholding the highest traditions, values and ethos of the Indian Army.
As a prelude to the investiture ceremony, a cultural programme titled “Shaurya Sandhya” was organised on February 9, showcasing India’s rich cultural heritage and celebrating the spirit of courage and sacrifice.
