Tura, Feb 10: Members of the All Meghalaya Minority Students’ Union (AMMSU) have submitted complaints to various district authorities seeking the removal of their president, Nur Islam and vice president, Soyudur Islam over various allegations.
“The president and vice president are involved in serious criminal activities and criminal cases have been registered against them,” claimed the treasurer who is also a complainant.
While a case has been registered against Nur Islam at the Rajabala PS, a criminal case has been registered against Soyudor at the Tura Women’s PS.
“The involvement of the President and Vice- President in criminal cases has severely affected the credibility, transparency and lawful functioning of the NGO. Their continuation in the post is against public interest and contrary to its objectives of the NGO, as well as the principles of good governance and accountability,” the complaint stated.
The members added that as a registered NGO, a person facing serious criminal charges should not be allowed to hold such a responsible position, particularly when public funds, donations or government grants are involved.
The members requested an immediate inquiry into the criminal antecedents of both the president and vice president as well as their immediate removal. They also asked for an order to be passed in this regard.
