SHILLONG, Feb 12: The theme “Christianity and Ethnic Identity” took centre stage at the Annual Joint Seminar hosted by John Roberts Theological College on Thursday in collaboration with Aizawl Theological College.
Organised under the auspices of the Theological Education Committee (TEC) of the Presbyterian Church of India, the seminar brought together theologians to explore the relationship between Christian faith and ethnic identity within historical and contemporary contexts.
The programme began with an inaugural session chaired by Rev. Dr BL Nongbri, Principal of JRTC. The inaugural address was delivered by Rev. Dr B Lalhunzira, Administrative Secretary in-charge of TEC, PCI.
The seminar comprised four academic sessions featuring paper presentations from scholars of both institutions. Dr Enolyne Lyngdoh of JRTC presented “Christianity and Ethnic Identity: A Biblical Perspective.” Rev. Dr Laldingluaia of ATC spoke on “Theology and Formation of Identity.”
Rev. Dr BL Nongbri of JRTC presented “Language, Power and Identity Formation: The Khasi Experience under Colonialism and Missionary Engagement in the 19th Century in North East India.” The final paper was delivered by Rev. Dr K Lalchhuanawma of ATC on “Christianity and Ethnic Identity in the Context of Multi-Faith Traditions of India.”
