MUNICH, Feb 15: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said at the Munich Security Conference that India has committed to stop buying additional Russian oil, following ongoing US concerns over Moscow’s actions in Ukraine and the sanctions imposed on Russia.
Rubio’s comments came days after US President Donald Trump announced a trade deal with India in early February, claiming New Delhi had agreed not to procure Russian crude.
The deal also included the rollback of a 25% tariff imposed in August on India’s Russian oil purchases.
India, however, has maintained that its energy procurement decisions are guided by national interests.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri reiterated that New Delhi will diversify its crude oil sources to ensure stable supplies while balancing strategic, economic, and energy security considerations amid global uncertainties. (PTI)
