SHILLONG, Feb 15: The Voice of the People Party (VPP) has launched a sharp attack on the MDA government, accusing it of neglecting teachers serving in deficit colleges and failing to release long-pending Dearness Allowance (DA) dues.
VPP spokesperson Batskhem Myrboh said the government has not implemented the DA rates of 55 per cent and 58 per cent that became due last year. He stated that the continued non-payment of these revised DA components has placed teachers under financial strain and raised serious concerns over the state’s commitment to higher education.
Describing teachers in deficit colleges as the “mainstay of college education in Meghalaya,” Myrboh said the government’s inaction directly affects morale and academic standards. He maintained that withholding legitimate financial benefits undermines not just educators but the overall quality of education in the state.
He said it is “high time that the MDA government walks the talk and stops mistreating teachers and denying them their rights.”
He further alleged that the delay in paying the rightful salary and DA arrears appears to stem from what he termed a deep financial crisis faced by the “loan-dependent government.”
