Nothing quite compares to getting sunlight or rain-drenched, Dheera Bhowmick

The wind is tossing the lilies and the lilacs,

The new leaves laugh in the spring sun

Pretty petals fall on the pathway,

Joyous moments of our childhood return.

CATCH THE magical moments of a May morning steeped in beauty. Wake up and breathe the breathtaking beauty around. All that it takes is love for a walk in the early hours of the sun.

The experience is more thrilling than you can imagine and there is reward for all the five senses, the heart and the soul. The peace hidden in the quiet hours of sunrise touches the heart, soothes the soul. Joy pure and serene holds you captive. With the joy spilling over, you exchange a few pleasantries with fellow walkers and end up feeling happier. You have added and helped spread positive energy.

The all-too-familiar pathways, the mountains at a distance, the concrete buildings look unfamiliar having acquired a different hue drenched in the morning’s radiant red rays.

You walk along the long winding roads and rather than wearying yourself out with tiresome thoughts you smile, see with eyes of wonder, hum a tune and converse silently with nature. The Jacaranda in full bloom with the fallen petals under the trees and strewn on the roads or scattered on green grass will ask you to be in a celebratory mood. If someone’s well tended garden comes into view during the walks you may see the May flowers in full bloom – bird of paradise, tulips, freesias, lilies, daffodils, dahlias, delphiniums, pansy, peony and agapanthus.

While enjoying the tete-a-tete with nature, vibrant energy of a few fast-paced walkers may prove infectious, jolting you out of your reverie and you find yourself quickening your pace to stay in the race for fitness.

The occasional unpredictable May morning rain may make the walk pleasanter. It may have been sunny and bright when you left home. The rain clouds were sighted in the distant horizon but not suspected. Suddenly you feel the huge cool drops of rain falling on your head. You run and take shelter under a huge tree with its dense leaves forming a natural umbrella. It is possible that you see a bird drenched in the rain sitting closed up on a branch of the same tree and you experience a strange feeling of kinship with the wet bird.

May rains are not torrential and usually stops within a few minutes. Continue walking the entire way you had planned to walk. The magical moments can’t be curtailed at any cost.

If you take to the road after a heavy downpour at dawn-time or midnight shower you will be rewarded with the sweet sight of trees swaying slowly seemingly heavy with rain-soaked barks and leaves, the colourful petals of bougainvillea and the pine needles sticking to wet earth, the rain-washed roads, the clean grass, the little drops of rain sparkling on tender flowers, a few broken twigs severed from its life-source. Lend your ears  to the whistling and whispering trees, feel the cool gentle morning  breeze touching your skin, and nature will pass on to you a clean, fresh and calm feeling. Treasure the feelings, they are entirely yours.

You are now ready to brace the responsibilities and challenges of the day.

The wondrous experience of the morning will remain with you for the rest of the day as you feel refreshed and rejuvenated for having been so close to nature, having spoken to it in silence and having lived in its midst for a few minutes and all the noise and din, the hustle bustle, the mad rush and the infuriating traffic jam at the days’ end will fail to disturb you. You will continue to feel and stay beautiful and unperturbed by the day’s happenings.

If you have wandered miles and miles on May mornings, you will find yourself unable to keep away from this pure and precious association every single day. The unseen presence will softly say, “If you have not loved me, you surely must have lost your way.”
