Pune/Mumbai, Feb 26: The Maharashtra CID is investigating the Baramati plane crash that killed former deputy CM Ajit Pawar on January 28, focusing on potential foul play and criminal negligence.
NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar, Ajit Pawar’s nephew, submitted a statement under Section 180 of the BNSS after local police did not register an FIR against the aircraft operator, VSR Ventures, which was recently ordered grounded by the DGCA for safety violations.
The CID will incorporate findings from the AAIB technical probe, while also examining possible criminal acts, including negligence or illegal omissions.
Rohit and cousin Yugendra Pawar demanded accountability and an FIR, citing links between VSR Ventures and political figures.
Maharashtra’s legislative council was briefed on the crash, with the government directed to present facts.
Union minister Ramdas Athawale suggested a CBI probe, though he doubted conspiracy.
The CID continues collecting evidence to ascertain responsibility. (PTI)
