SHILLONG, Feb 27: In the wake of the heated exchanges between the Opposition and Treasury benches during the Budget Session, which concluded on Friday, former Speaker Charles Pyngrope has stated that the decorum and dignity of the House must be maintained at all costs.
Pyngrope noted that in a parliamentary democracy, members are bound by specific rules and procedures governing the conduct of business.
He remarked that while voicing dissent is a fundamental right, it must be done within parliamentary limits.
“To voice your opinion in a manner which is not unparliamentary is not against the rules. However, this should not cross the limit,” he said.
Pyngrope added that the dignity of the House should not be compromised by any member, regardless of their position in the Assembly.
