SHILLONG, Feb 28: Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU) recently hosted three renowned European cavers—Simon Brooks, David Cooke, and Marcel Dikstra—during their visit to Meghalaya.
According to a statement here, the explorers are in the region to study Meghalaya’s unique cave systems, which are ranked among the longest and most complex in the world.
During their visit, the team met with the Vice-Chancellor at the Nongrah campus to discuss cave exploration, environmental conservation and sustainable tourism. The VC noted the significance of international collaboration in speleological research and knowledge-sharing.
The cavers also visited the Umsawli campus for an interactive session with students.
They shared insights from their expeditions, discussed technical safety aspects and spoke on the importance of preserving fragile subterranean ecosystems.
Students engaged with the explorers on various topics, including expedition challenges, specialised equipment and scientific discoveries made underground.
